RosMorPort FSUE has taken the delivery of the second diesel icebreaker Sankt-Peterburg from Baltiysky Zavod OJSC (St. Petersburg). According to PortNews IAA reporter, the flag of the Russian Federation was hoisted at the vessel to the order of RF Prime Minister Vladimir Putin who attended the ceremony as well as Vice Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov, RF Transport Minister Igor Levitin, head of Russia’s Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport Aleksandr Davydenko, St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko, Director General of RosMorPort FSUE Igor Rusu.
As PortNews IAA reported earlier, Baltiysky Zavod built two diesel-electric icebreakers, Moskva and Sankt-Peterburg to the order of RosMorPort FSUE. These multi-functional icebreakers are capable of not only escorting vessels as their major function but of participating in recovery of oil spills and rescue operations as well.
The Sankt-Peterburg is the second vessel of the series. This double-decker is fitted with two all WD. The vessels’ displacement is some 10,000 tonnes, speed in open water – 16 knots, crew – 25 persons.
