The new Shatian District depot, located next to manufacturers in Dongguan in the Pearl River Delta Region, will conveniently enable manufacturers to collect empty containers for export via SCT/CCT.
"Compared to existing empty pick-up at Shenzhen, this new service will effectively reduce cost of haulage from factory to gateway, shorten the transportation time and distance which greatly reduces emission of C02, conducive to environmental protection," a statement from SCT said.
The outside depot occupies an area of 26,000 square metres to provide container pick-up and repair services. Its establishment is part of efforts to expand the service network of Western Shenzhen Port.
So far, the port has been operating outside depots in Shunde, Siu Lam of Zhongshan, Changsha of Hunan, Nanchang of Jiangxi, Waihai of Jiangmen, Pingnan of Guangxi and Dongguan, to create a hinterland cargo catchment area.
