The Nanjiang Special Ore Terminal, which involves a total investment of RMB 2.94 billion, will have a length of 400 meters. It is designed for 300,000-ton bulk cargo ships and will be able to handle 23 million tons annually.
The Shenhua Coal Terminal auxiliary project, which involves a total investment of RMB 3.78 billion, will provide access for railways, railway depots and roads to three special coal berths. Each berth is designed for 30,000-ton to 50,000-ton coal carriers and will be able to handle 35 million tons annually.
The projects will thus add an annual handling capacity of 58 million tons to Tianjin Port, increasing its competitiveness among major ports.
During the first half of this year, Tianjin Port's cargo throughput amounted to 185 million tons, up 1.2% year on year, while throughput of twenty-foot equivalent units rose 1.9% to 4.16 million TEUs. The port has raised its cargo throughput target to 380 million tons for the second half of this year.
