According to the press center of the regional government, this was announced by Igor Polikarpov, head of Oktyabrskaya Railway’s Murmansk Department, at the meeting with Marina Kovtun, acting head of the region.

When discussing the project on comprehensive development of Murmansk Transportation Hub Marina Kovtun said that the development of railway infrastructure is needed for the project aimed at boosting the throughput of Murmansk seaport.

“We associate this project with the development of the Murmansk Region – it could be said that the future of the Murman depends on railway like a century ago,” the Governor said.

The project on comprehensive development of Murmansk Transportation Hub has been included into the Federal special-purpose programme “Development of Russia’s Transport System (2010-2015)”. According to the document, the project implies the construction of several terminals for transshipment of coal, containers, crude and oil products, development of a storage and distribution zone as well as a logistic center. Railway infrastructure development implies the construction of Vykhodnoy-Lavna line, ten railway stations and parks, reconstruction of four stations and development of highway infrastructure in Murmansk.
