Klaipeda seaport cargo turnover up 4% to 23.3 mln t in Jan-Aug’14
This August Klaipeda Seaport cargo turnover increased by 11,2 pct and totalled 2 697,7 thou. tn, i.e, more by 271,7 thou. tn comparing with August of 2013, the port authority says.
Within the period of January – August of 2014 the overall throughput of the Seaport increased by 4,0 pct: altogether 23,3 mln tn of cargo were handled, i.e. more by 895,1 thou. tn comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year.
Such cargo handling growth was achieved due to increased even by 70,7 pct. handling of liquid and bulk (break-bulk and packed) fertilizers: totally 921,5 thou. tn or more by 381,6 thou. tn than in August of 2013 were handled.
Also it is worth accentuating rather significant growth of containerised cargoes: the handling results achieved August of 2014 have been the best result of August since 2010 (444,7 thou. tn were handled, i.e. more by 26,2 pct. or by 92,4 thou. tn than in August of 2013).
Oil products (480,7 thou. tn were transhiped, the yoy change was +2,0 pct. or +9,4 thou. tn);
-containerised cargoes (444,7 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was +26,2 pct. or +92,4 thou. tn);
-Ro-Ro cargoes (360,6 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was -6,9 pct. or -26,8 thou. tn);
-and ore (101,5 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was -4,8 pct. or -5,1 thou. tn) were other cargo categories that made the most significant impact on cargo handling turnover in August of the current year.
