Throughput of port Riga (Latvia) up 14.2% to 26.66 mln t in Jan-Aug’14
In January-August 2014, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 26,664,200 t of cargo (+14.2%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, coal transshipment climbed by 8% to 9,829,800, oil products – up 34.1% to 6,708,600 t, timber – up 5.6% to 1,453,600 t, wood pellets – down 43.3% to 356,400 t, scrap metal – up 14.5% to 765,00 t, ore – down 5.2% to 251,300 t.
The port’s container throughput increased by 1.1% to 250,186 TEUs. Passenger turnover fell by 3.7% to 579,341 persons including 57,043 cruise passengers (-10.3%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2013, the port’s throughput declined by 1.6%, year-on-year, to 35,466,700 t of cargo.
