On September 16-17, the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania Rimantas Sinkevičius will attend the Informal Transport Ministerial Council held in Milan where he will present Lithuania‘s position on planning, governance and funding of the Trans-European Transport Corridors (TEN-T) network, Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications says in its press release.
„Lithuania believes that the multimodality of the TEN-T Corridors should be more emphasized i.e. more attention should be drawn on intermodal transport without limiting one’s on the development of the railways. In addition, Lithuania will recommend distributing the EU funds according to the needs and financial capacity of the Member States“, says Rimantas Sinkevičius, the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.
The Trans-European Transport networks, located in the EU territory and having the highest traffic load and intensity, is a crucial infrastructure axis ensuring an efficient logistics and EU competitiveness.
One of the nine major TEN-T Corridors – the North Sea–Baltic Corridor, connecting the ports of the Netherlands and Belgium, Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, and including the two major projects – Rail Baltica railway and EU freight Corridor No. 8 – is crossing the territory of Lithuania.
