Latest landing craft of project 21820 completed sea trial in Kaliningrad region (photo)

The latest landing craft of project 21820 Denis Davydov built for the Baltic Fleet by Yaroslavsky Shipbuilding Plant has completed the sea trial at the sea test range of the Kaliningrad region, RIA Novosty reports.

In late September – early October the vessel will commence official tests upon completion of which the landing craft will join the Baltic Fleet. The crew of the boat and the trial team held maneuverability and speed trials, checked the operation of all systems and units, navigation and radio-technical facilities as well as fighting equipment. They also undertook landing of vehicles and track machines.

Second landing craft of project 21820, the Lieutenant Rimsky-Korsakov, built by Yaroslavsky Shipbuilding Plant for Russia’s Baltic Fleet  has commenced the manufacturer's trials at the combat training area of the Baltic Fleet. The third vessels of the series, Warrant officer Lermontov will start the trial in mid October.

Landing crafts of project 21820 feature unique characteristics. They are intended for high-speed transfer by sea and landing on an unequipped coast of human contingents, wheeled and tracked vehicles. High speed of the boat is ensured by the presence of the air cavity on the bottom, powerful diesel engines М507А-2D and ventilated water jet propellers. 

The vessel’s full displacement is 280 t, length max — 45 m, width max — 8.5 m, draught — 1.9 m, maximum speed with waves of up to 0.75 m high — 35 knots, maximum range — 500 nautical miles, cargo hold dimensions — 27х6.8х2.34 m, maximum cargo capacity — 140 t.
