On 16 July 2014, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. agreed in principle with Maersk Line to form an vessel sharing agreement called 2M, the company said in its press release. Operating a total capacity of 2.1 million TEU, the VSA aims to deliver improved services to its customers booking on MSC’s East-West services. The proposed VSA will provide an increased number of port pairs, more direct ports of call and enhanced transit times. Schedule integrity will improve as a result of an increased number of weekly sailings. MSC aims to reduce its carbon emissions by over 20%.
