As of today, Crimean shipyards cannot be efficiently used for civil shipbuilding IAA PortNews journalist cites Aleksei Rakhmanov, head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, as saying at the press conference dedicated to his 100-day long period of office.
Aleksei Rakhmanov had to acknowledge that the dock of Zaliv shipyard (Kerch, Crimea) which allows building of large civil ships will be most probably used for repair and building of warships.
According to him, the construction of large capacity civil vessels is not possible today because of restrictions on calls at Crimean ports, on insuring of such vessels and on transition of vessels from Crimea via territorial waters of Europe.
“Therefore, Crimean shipyards, especially those of Sevastopol, will focus mainly on repair of warships. We will also participate in the development of More shipyard in Feodosia”, Aleksei Rakhmanov summarized.
United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC OJSC) is the largest shipbuilding company in Russia. It was set up in 2007 with 100% federal ownership. The holding comprises 60 companies and organizations (major shipbuilding and shiprepairing companies as well as leading design bureaus). Currently, USC consolidates about 80% of the domestic shipbuilding complex. The Russian market is the main focus of the state corporation though it also exports its products to 20 countries worldwide.
