Boskalis says over 10 mln cbm of material to be dredged at Bronka port in 2014

The volume of dredging operations performed by Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. under MMPK Bronka project will exceed 10.4 mln cbm in 2014. According to IAA PortNews journalist, this was announced by Boskalis representatives during the demonstration of the Company’s dredging fleet arranged at port Bronka for Boskalis partners. The contract earlier provided for dredging of 7.4 mln cbm but an additional agreement extended it by 3 mln cbm.

Boskalis plans to deepen Bronka’s approach canal to 7.5 meters this year.

12 vessels of Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. operate at the port today: NORDIC GIANT and WODAN dredgers, Cutter Suction Dredger CSD EDAX, barges, geodesic and auxiliary fleet.

As it was reported earlier, on September 24, 2013 Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) was awarded a EUR 130 million contract by CJSC Baltstroy (general contractor of FSUE Rosmorport under MMPK Bronka project) for the dredging and construction of a 6 kilometer long shipping channel, turning basin and 11.2 meter deep berth pockets for MMPK Bronka.

Boskalis commenced operations on April 26, 2014.  A total volume of 16 million cubic meters of clay, silt and sand will be dredged using a wide range of equipment including medium sized trailing suction hopper dredgers, cutter suction dredgers and backhoe dredgers. 

The project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2015.
