Seaports of the Leningrad region accounted for 24% of all Russian seaports’ throughput in 2013, press center of the regional government says.
Throughput of seaports in 2013 surged 35 times from 2000, 143.8 mln t against 4 mln t. As of today, transport complex of Saint-Petersburg and the Leningrad region covers about a half of all Russia’s foreign trade turnover, the statement says.
Throughput of Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad region seaports is forecasted to increase 1.3 times to 265.3 mln t by 2020 and to 300 mln t by 2030. Cargo transshipment between the rail and sea transport of the Gulf of Finland’s southern and northern ports is supposed to increase considerably.
According to the statement, the Leningrad region is interested in creation of logistic centers optimally combining the functions of handling and storing of cargoes as well as generating cargo traffic involving difficult means of transport.
Seaports of Ust-Luga, Primorsk, Vysotsk and Vyborg play the key role in transshipment of foreign trade cargoes.
