Scania and Westerman to build container terminal

Scania and Westerman Logistics have joined forces to build a container terminal in Hasselt. The truck manufacturer is going to put together ‘knocked-down packages’ to export to countries with extremely high import duties, such as Brazil, the company said in its press release.

Starting next year, these components and parts for a complete truck, about 20 a day, will be gathered together in a 20,000 m2 logistics centre and then loaded into a container. The container will travel by inland vessel to Rotterdam.

Alongside the logistics centre, Salverda is building 11,000 m2 of industrial premises for Westerman Logistics, for which 3,500 concrete piles still need to be driven for cross-docking activities.

At the moment, 140 Scanias per day are produced at the Zwolle plant. Last year, more than 50% of all Scania trucks sold in the EU came from Zwolle.
