Busan Port Authority stated on October 8th that "Interactive Pier" submitted by Synhwa Consulting Co.Ltd., Changjo Co.Ltd., Saman Co.Ltds, Kunil Engineering Co.Ltd., Daea Co.Ltd., and BOENC Co.Ltd. won the International Competition for Waterfront Park Masterplan of the Busan North Port, Korea, the company said in its press release.
Busan Port Authority(BPA) held the international competition in order to create a waterfront park in the Busan North Port Redevelopment area as a rest place for citizens and an international marine tourist attraction. BPA selected seven teams in June based on applicants' organization, major performances, and visions of North Port. 8 field experts from home and abroad carried out the screenings from Oct.7 to Oct. 8.
Cho Sung-ryong, head juror, said "The winning team emphasized the vitality of a city park through connecting city space and daily life style. In particular, it successfully presented local stories by connecting its locational feature(original pier) and life and memory of pier workers. In addition, its effort to create a co-existing space of past and the present was highly evaluated."
BPA plans to provide a rest and culture area for citizens by building the waterfront park zone, with size of 0.28million ㎡ out of the total redevelopment area(1.53million ㎡).
The final winner will be entitled to design the waterfront park worth 2.5billion won and the 6 runner-ups will also receive 30million won.
BPA President Lim said "Busan North Port Waterfront Park is a center of old downtown. World renowned experts selected the best masterplan today. Hence, BPA will continue our effort to make the Busan North Port Redevelopment area, a place that creates new values.
