From the beginning of the navigation period (March 25, 2014) Volga Shipping Company OJSC carried 5.4 mln t of cargo, the Company’s press center says.
Despite low water level near Gorodets the company managed to carry as much cargo as in the same period of 3013. Income from fleet operation increased by 14%.
Amid low water level in the Central Basin major traffic shifted to the Southern Basin, thanks to redirection of export cargoes to the ports of Astrakhan and Port of Kavkaz. The company transported 3.5 mln t of export cargo (+39%), the share of export increased to 64.2%.
In the reported period, 10 vessels of the RSD44 project doubled their share in total transportation of the Company. They carried 844,000 t of cargo including 686,000 t of grain (up 2.2 times, year-on-year).
Volga Shipping OJSC is one of the biggest transport companies in Russia. It was founded in 1843. The company transports cargoes along rivers and lakes of the country. In 2013, Volga Shipping carried 6.56 mln t of cargo.
The Company is a part of VBTH – shipping division of Universal Cargo Logistics Holding, international transportation group consolidating a number of Russian railway, stevedoring and logistic companies (the majority stakeholder of VBTH). The division comprises North Western Shipping Company, V.F.Tanker, a number of shipbuilding and cruise assets.
