Busan Port throughput up 16.7% to 510 mln TEU in Sept 2014

According to Busan Port Authority(President Lim Ki-tack) on the 23rd, Busan Port handled 749,875 TEU of import/export cargo and 759,760 TEU of transshipment cargo in September, increasing 4.4% and 9.2% respectively compared to the previous year,the company announced in its press release.

The transshipment cargo volume continues to grow accounting for over 50% of the total cargo volume at Busan Port. By nation, the T/S cargo of China(249,589 TEU), U.S.A(92,698 TEU), and Russia(24,287 TEU) increased 18.4%, 3.6%, 6.9% respectively, while that of Japan(107,702 TEU) and Europe(32,271 TEU) decreased 6.9% and 14.9%.

The ratio of T/S cargo by nation is as follows: China 32.9%, Japan 14.5%, U.S.A 12.2%, Europe 4.2%, and they accounted for 63.8% of total transshipment cargo volume.

The cumulative total in September 2014 at Busan Port was recorded at 13,702,654 TEU and the cargo handling ratio between New Port and North Port was 65 to 35 from 62 to 38 last year. Cargo volume to Busan New Port has gradually risen. Busan North Port handled 541,733 TEU in September increasing 2.2% YOY, while New Port processed 967,901 TEU increasing 9.4%.

The monthly cargo volume at the port maintained a 1.5million TEU level for seven consecutive months since the monthly volume surpassed 1.6million in March.

BPA Port Marketing Team leader Jang Hyung-tak stated "We plan to carry out various marketing strategies in order to increase total cargo volume at Busan Port and attract transshipment cargo for creating high added value."
