Trucking companies avoid routes via port of Calais (France)

Lots of cargo companies decide to change their routes to avoid calling at port Calais notorious for the attempts of illegal migrants to get to the UK in heavy trucks by ferries bound for Dover, (Media Group IAA PortNews) says. 

According to the French media, truck drivers risk their cargo and lives as they are often threatened by migrants. Besides, the police must punish drivers carrying illegal migrants. 

Last week, 100 policemen were additionally deployed to protect trucks entering the port. The police had to use tear gas.

Despite of extra costs trucking companies recommend routs via the port of Dunkirk or the ports of the Netherlands or Belgium.
