Port of Arkhangelsk cargo volume drops 7.7% in Jan-Oct to 4.32 million tonnes
In January-October 2014 shipment of export, import and transit cargoes through the Port of Arkhangelsk terminals decreased by 7.7% year-on-year to 4.32 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics shows.
There was a decline in the segment of oil products (-22.2%), to 1.83 million tonnes, in coal exports - by 22.3%, to 363,600 tonnes. At the same time timber cargo increased by 18 7% to 354.,600 tonnes. Handling of coastal trade cargo rose 17.6% to 1.6 million tonnes.
Founded over 400 years ago, the Port of Arkhangelsk is the oldest Russian port and the biggest port in the country's northern region. The port is located at the mouth of the Northern Dvina River, which flows into the White Sea. Icebreaking fleet operates at the port harbor from December through mid-April. Arkhangelsk can accommodate vessels with a draft of 9.2 m, length of 175 m and breadth of 30 m. The port has 151 berths of total length of 17,548 m, including 31 berths managed by timber industry operators, 22 berths of commercial seaport, 6 berths of river port, 3 berths for crude and oil product exports by oil company Rosneft-Arkhangelsknefteproduct. 2 berths of fishing port and 87 small piers leased and operated by different companies. Cargo throughput at the port of Arkhangelsk in 2013 was 5.26 million tonnes.
