Rickmers-Linie implements ECA Surcharge for container
On 5 September 2014 Rickmers-Linie informed about its intention to implement a Low Sulphur Fuel Surcharge to cover additional costs arising from the use of low sulphur fuel with max 0.1% sulphur content.
Rickmers-Linie vessels have to use Marine Gas Oil (MGO) with a maximum sulphur content of 0.1% within the ECAs (Emission Control Areas), in order to fulfill the new regulations coming into force on 1 January 2015.
This step will reduce the content of sulphur and hazardous sulphur dioxides in the exhausts of our vessels considerably and thus will contribute to further reducing the impact on the environment and our health. Rickmers-Linie fully supports the introduction of these new regulations.
The low sulphur surcharges have now been calculated for our different trades (for Breakbulk and Container shipments) and will come into effect on 1 December 2014 respectively on 1 January 2014. The new surcharges covering the extra costs for low sulphur fuels used in ECAs will be shown in our quotations, bookings and invoices as “ECA Surcharges”.
