In January-November 2014, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 12,301,300 t of cargo (+4.3%), says press center of HaminaKotka Satama Oy.
Transshipment of export cargo declined by 1.4%. Transshipment of dry bulk and liquid bulk cargo remained at the level of the previous year. Transshipment of pulp/paper/cellulose cargo increased. Transshipment of packaged cargo fell by 12.6%, “other cargoes” – by 21.5%. Imports fell by 9.7%, transit transportation – by 8.2%.
Container throughput dropped by 9%, transshipment of automobiles – by 22%.
The Port of HaminaKotka Ltd is the biggest universal, export and transshipment port in Finland. Finland’s ports of Kotka (stevedoring company Kotkan Satama Oy) and Hamin (Haminan Satama Oy) merged on May 1, 2011. In 2013, throughput of the joined port fell by 3.6% to 14 mln tonnes.
The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border.
