The newest Dyugon class (project 21820) landing ship "Midshipman Lermontov", built for the Baltic Fleet at the Yaroslavl Shipyard, has started shipbuilder's sea trails, the Baltic Fleet press office said.
The shipyard's team and the ship crew will conduct jointly speed and agility tests, all units, systems and component operation tests, as well as navigation and radio equipment, weapon systems, will perform several landings of various wheeled and tracked vehicles afloat and on the coast.
Once the shipbuilder's / state acceptance trials are completed "Midshipman Lermontov" will enter service with the Russian Baltic Fleet.
Landing crafts of project 21820 features unique characteristics and in fact are second to none. The Dyugon class ships are intended for high-speed transfer and landing of marines, wheeled / tracked vehicles on unequipped coast.
An artificial air cavity on the bottom enables the vessel to achieve high speed. The 21820 project crafts are powered by twin 9000 hp M502A-2D diesel engines and water jets. General characteristics: full displacement - 280 tonnes, LOA - 46 meters, breadth overall - 8.6 m, draft - 1.9 m, max. speed 35 knots (at waves height of 0.75 m), max. cruising range - 500 nm, crew – 6, cargo hold capacity - 27x6,8x2,34 m, 140 tonnes
