Hydromec Plant contracted to design the Arctic dredger for Rosmorrechflot (graphic)

Zavod Hydromekhanizatsii and the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) signed a state contract for the design of a shallow 'river-sea' dredger. The dredger with capacity of 4000 cbm / hour will be built to RRR M-PR 2.5 class (Ice 40) A, the Company said.

The company will be developing civil design of a dredger that could operate on the Siberian rivers.

Projected dredger (working title "Hydromec Arctic Dredger") will do the job of removal of sediments and dredging of inland waterways on the rivers of Lena, Yana and Indigirka to enlarge dimensions of shipping channels, along bar areas.

The state-owned dredging, tender fleet operating on inland waterways have an average age of about 34 years and more. With the standard service life of 25 years without the necessary overhaul, the ships continue to operate with an increased risk of technical failures.

General characteristics of the future dredger: LOA - 113.4 m, LBP - 103.20 m, beam - 16,00 m, depth - 5.00 m, draft molded – approx. - 1.95 m, draft while dredging – max. - 2.0 m, gross tonnage - 3150 RT, displacement - +/- 2,900 tonnes, DWT while dredging - 500 tonnes, maximum dredging depth - 14 m.

Closed joint stock company Zavod Hydromekhanizatsii (Hydromec) was established 60 years ago and now is a Russian designer and manufacturer of dredgers. Hydromec is a vertically integrated shipbuilding enterprise, comprising metallurgical, fabrication and machining divisions. The Hydromec shipyard builds dredgers with pumping capacity ranging 100 to 8000 cmb / hour and depths of up to 35m. Since 1950, the company has manufactured more than 1,250 dredgers of different types and designs. Since 2012 the company in conjunction with the Netherlands based Conoship BV has been engaged in the design and construction of self-propelled trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHD), and supply of the ships with equipment and software.
