Cargo traffic at Ukraine's Port of Odessa grows 8.1% to 22.09 million tonnes in Jan-Nov, 2014

The volume of exports, imports and transit cargoes handled at the terminals of Odessa Marine Trade Port (Port of Odessa) based in Ukraine in January-November 2014 totaled 22.06 million tonnes, which represents a 8.1% gain year-on-year, the OMTP press service said.

The eleven-month volume growth was driven by a 27.8% gain to 5.85 million tonnes in grain bulk segment and by a 85.8% surge in ferrous metals volumes (4.1 million tonnes).

Stevedoring companies operating at the port also reported strong results. The volumes of metals, iron ore handled by "Novolog LLC" soared by174.3% yoy, handling of grain in bulk, metals and ore by "Brooklyn-Kiev Ltd." jumped by 114.7%, and shipments of metals, ore and general cargo at the terminal of MetalsUkraine Ltd. Rose 132.3%.

State-owned enterprise Odessa Marine Trade Port (Port of Odessa, OMTP) based in Odessa is one of the largest ports in the Black Sea-Azov basin. The port is able to handle more than 14 million tonnes of dry cargo and 14 million tonnes of oil products a year. Passenger terminal of OMTP can accommodate vessels up to 300 meters in length. In 2013 cargo throughput at the port fell 5.3% year-on-year to 23.1 million tonnes.
