Fifteen cruise ships are expected call at the Port of Murmansk in 2015, a Murmansk region official said Thursday in St. Petersburg.
The Murmansk region Vice-Governor Alexei Tyukavin, who was speaking at the 4th International Forum "The Arctic: Present and Future" said that in 2014 Murmansk port handled 11 cruise ships, 8 cruise ship calls a year before and 15 cruise vessels arrivals in 2012.
The port of Murmansk is implementing the project "Arctic Harbor" that includes renovation of the building of marine passenger terminal, outfitting of the checkpoint area. The regional authority seek to include Murmansk in the list of ports offering 72-hour entry of foreign tourists traveling on ferries.
To date, the port has completed overhaul of the passenger terminal's pier of 205 m in length, 19.6 m in width and 7.3 m in depth. The port authority has developed the project of reconstruction of the marine terminal's building that will have an arranged passenger area with border crossing point. The project is valued at RUB 1,159,000.
