Krylov Centre and FESRC join hands to develop ship designs, marine solutions

The FSUE Krylov State Research Centre and OAO Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Centre (FESRC) on December 12, 2014 signed a cooperation agreement, the Krylov naval architecture and marine engineering institute said.

The cooperation will be carried out in the field of research while designing of vessels and other marine equipment for offshore exploration and production of hydrocarbons on the continental shelf of the Russian Federation. The main areas of cooperation are the scientific and production activities: the improvement and upgrade of the Far Eastern Centre owned shipbuilding facilities, the construction of ships, drilling rigs, LNG carriers and other marine solutions, implementing scientific and technical developments and know-how. The agreement also covers the issues of import substitution of materials and marine equipment and localization of marine equipment.

In the area of scientific activity it is, above all, the project development and survey of marine equipment for safety of operation and the environment,  as well as operational efficiency of vessels and marine equipment tailored to the market demands.

In addition, the two parties agreed to on the active participation in the organization of various events (seminars, workshops, etc.) to exchange experience in naval architecture, marine engineering and construction of vessels. Duration of the agreement is 2 years.

The Krylov State Research Centre was established in 1894 as Russia's first ship model basin in St. Petersburg. Today its is the parent company and a leading research institution of Russia's shipbuilding industry. The Krylov Centre is solving the major technical challenges to provide best solutions for the design and construction of the Navy's ships and merchant vessels. The Krylov Centre's scientists and experts are currently engaged in the design and engineering of multipurpose marine equipment for operation on the Arctic shelf of Russia.
