Cargo throughput at Ukraine's seaports rose 5.1% in January-November to 129.2 million tonnes

Freight traffic at seaports of Ukraine in January-November increased by 5.1% year-on-year to 129.2 million tonnes, the Port Authority of Ukraine said.

State port operators handled 44,442,000 tonnes of cargo, which accounts for 34.4% of the total throughput. Private port operators moved 84,842,000 tonnes - 65.6% of the eleven-month volume and 44,207,000 tonnes (34.2%) through the piers of Port Authority.

Exports totaled 93,409,000 tonnes, which represents a 10.6% growth year-on-year, imports volume reached 14,503,000 tonnes, or a 11.1% decline on last year's figure. Transshipment of transit cargo amounted to 18,608,000 tonnes (-7.9%), short sea trade volume jumped 33.5% to 2,765,000 tonnes. Container traffic at the country's seaports soared 86.2% y-o-y to 614,086 TEUs.

The following ports ended the eleven-month period with strong results: Berdyansk (+46.1%), Ismail (+12.4%), Ilichevsky (+7 4%), Nikolayev (+ 4.1%), Odessa (+8.1%), SMP "Octyabrsk" (+27.4%), "Ust-Danaisk" (+ 95.5%) and "Yuzhny" (+9.3%).

The 5.1% gain in the reporting period was driven by an impressive growth in several segments: grain – 28,598,000 tonnes (+131.7%), ore cargoes – 31,795,000 tonnes (+103 8%) and metal products – 17,412,000 tonnes (+108.4%).
