Clearing of Tuapse port’s water area to commence when wheather improves, Rosmorrechflot says

Clearing operations in the water area of the port of Tuapse will commence as soon as the weather improves, says press center of the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency.  Current operations cover berthing facilities and the coastal area of the port.

On December 24, 2014 at 1.29 (Moscow time) an oil spill caused by leakage of Tikhoretsk-Tuapse-2 pipeline was registered near Grechensky settlement of the Tuapse district. As oil entered the Tuapse river, both internal and outer parts of the bay were contaminated. 

According to Oil Spill Response Plan of port Tuapse the incident headquarters have been set up and the response teams and facilities have been organized. To clear the port’s water area and berths it was decided to use 15 vehicles, emergency response facilities, two trucks of sorbent and over 200 persons. Besides, additional equipment was sent from Novorossiysk.

Weather conditions do not currently let use oil garbage collectors or other vessels of the port service fleet.

Prosecutor’s office of the Krasnodar region has initiated the inspection in respect of the oil spill and contamination of the water body, Tuapse river entering the Black Sea.
