Maersk Line informs customers of the steady decline in market demand on the popular trade between the east coast of South America and Europe and the Mediterranean. This weakening demand has led to substantial open capacity and resulted in a need to adjust our network to match the changing market forces, the company said in its press release.
From the 5th January 2015, capacity and reefer plugs were adjusted to more accurately match market demands. This has resulted in a 10% reduction in overall market capacity, including plug capacity.
Smaller vessels of between 4,500 and 6,500 TEU capacity are phasing in and will provide a more efficient operation in line with today’s market demand. These changes will have no effect on the superior products and service our customer’s already enjoy.
