In 2014, domestic shipment of North-Western Shipping Company totaled 107,000 t (+56%, year-on-year), the Company’s press center says.
Over 50,000 t of cargo was transported to the oil & gas fields in the Far North regions.
All in all, vessels of North-Western Shipping Company carried 5.6 mln t in 2014 (-13%, year-on-year).
According to the statement, the decline should be attributed to a number of factors: low water level during the navigation period at inland water ways of Russia, general economic trends in the markets of Russia and Europe.
The company is striving to improve the efficiency of its fleet through withdrawal of old vessels: in 2014, the number of vessels involved in transportation decreased from 71 to 57. Major volumes were carried by vessels built over the recent 12 years including 10 vessels of project DCV36 Amethyst and 7 vessels of project RSD49 Neva-Leader.
Fleet renovation and concentration of the high-rated freights at the new vessels allowed for improvement of the Company’s financial results against the previous periods. In 2014, North-Western Shipping Company expects the increase of income from freight activity (over 98% of total revenue) by 21% to RUB 6.1 bln. Transportation of grain, timber, ferrous metal and ferrous metal scrap, chemical and mineral fertilizers account for some 75% of revenue.
In 2014, North-Western Shipping Company carried 1.7 mln t of grain, 1.1 mln t of ferrous metal, 1 mln t of chemical and mineral fertilizers and 0.5 mln t of timber.
Exports made 57% (3.2 mln t, mostly grain, timber, ferrous metal and ferrous metal scrap, chemical and mineral fertilizers), which is similar to the result of the previous year.
Some 32% of cargo was carried by sea between foreign ports operating round the year without any seasonal restrictions. This sector made 1.8 mln t (-19%), mostly fertilizers, grain, timber, non-ferrous metals.
Imports fell by 38% to 0.5 mln t due to ceased grain imports and decreased imports of construction and chemical cargoes from European countries. The fall was slightly compensated with the surge of ferrous metal transportation (+35% to 0.3 mln t) from S. Europe to the ports of the Caspian Sea. The share of imports made 9% in 2014.
