Throughput of port Liepaja (Latvia) up 8.9% to 440,000 t in Jan’15

In January 2015, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 440,000 t of cargo (+8.9%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority. Transshipment of grain climbed by 23.8% to 271,000 t, construction materials dropped by 30.2% to 18,500 t, timber – surged by 38.4% to 44,000 t, oil – plunged by 76.8% to 3,300 t, oil products – fell by 32.8% to 13,100 t.

The port’s container throughput dropped by 35% to 166 TEUs, Transshipment of ro-ro cargo cargo increased by 5% to 2,298 units. Passenger turnover declined by 5% to 2,723 persons. The number of calls fell by 5% to 102 calls.

The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. Half of its turnover is formed by oil products and dry loose cargo from CIS countries, mainly Belarus. In 2014, the port of Liepaja handled 5.29 mln tonnes of cargo.
