As of 23 March the whole Maasvlakte will be counted as one zone. As a result it will not only be possible to check a vehicle for compliance with the entry requirements when it enters the Maasvlakte via the N15, but also throughout the area. This also means that the road running parallel to the N15 – the Noordoever Oostvoornse Meer – directly forms part of the zone and can no longer be used as a short cut, the company said in its press release.
The municipality will also be using the cameras above the road for enforcement purposes, starting on 2 April 2015. This will considerably increase the chance of catching offenders. Originally, enforcement with the aid of cameras was to begin in mid-January. For the time being, in addition to camera-aided enforcement, Rotterdam will be holding roadside checks on a monthly basis.
After the cameras have become operational, these roadside checks will focus mainly on vehicles with foreign number plates. This is because there has to be evidence of a level playing field within the sector, both with foreign carriers and between Dutch carriers.
