Russia's inland waterways traffic drops 8.8% in H1 to 41,5 million tonnes

Freight volume moved on the inland waterways of the Russian Federation in January-June 2015 decreased 8.8% as compared to the corresponding period last year to 41.5 million tonnes, the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport press office said.

The half-year IWW traffic includes 29.5 million tonnes of domestic traffic and 12 million tonnes transported abroad.

Cargo handling in the first six months of the year rose to 45.6 million tonnes, a 17.4-percent decrease.

In the reporting period the inland waterway passenger transport carried 4.8 million people, or 9.1% more on H1 2014 figures.

IWW basin administrations reported that the planned volume of seasonal deliveries of basic commodities to the Russian Far North under government contracts is 1.8 million tonnes. Currently, the actual volume of cargoes delivered to consumers is 661,900 tonnes, or 39% of the planned volume. The stockpiles include 464,400 tonnes of coal (35%), 305,300 tonnes of oil products (31%).
