CMA CGM implements a pioneer project, widens its logistics services offer in Uruguay

The CMA CGM Group, via its subsidiary CMA CGM LOG, signed a unique agreement with Godilco – a Uruguayan logistics company. The partnership will position CMA CGM LOG as a direct provider of warehousing and distribution services in Uruguay. It was signed in June 2015 for a period of 24 months renewable, the Group said on Monday in a press release.

By working along with Godilco, CMA CGM LOG will be able to provide its clients with bonded ware-housing offering and local distribution solutions.

Uruguay has a strategic location in South America: the port of Montevideo is key to provide inland transportation on barges or roads to Paraguay, Argentina and Chile.

Already present in Uruguay through its office in Montevideo and its 5 direct lines calling the port of the city, CMA CGM will develop a complementary logistics expertise in this country, via its logistics subsidiary CMA CGM LOG.

Created in 2001, CMA CGM LOG is the CMA CGM Group’s subsidiary specialized in freight forwarding and logistics solutions. Its 1,000 experts offer logistics solutions in 37 countries, including air freight, multimodal transport, customs management, warehousing and distribution and a wide range of logistics services. In 2015, CMA CGM LOG pursues its development strategy in emerging countries.

Mathieu Friedberg, Vice President Freight forwarding and Logistics activities: "the partnership with Godilco is a decisive step in the Group’s development in Latin America. CMA CGM LOG has been operating in Brazil since 2013 and now pursues its development by opening new offices in Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Chile and Bolivia. We see South America as a high potential area and we want to position ourselves as a pioneer in this part of the world.”

Marseille-headquartered CMA CGM was founded in 1978 by Jacques R. Saadé. Today the French company has become the world’s third largest container shipping group and number one in France operating across the world’s oceans. It is also one of the first global shipping operators to have control over the whole logistics chain offering a door-to-door service that integrates both inland waterway transport (River Shuttle Containers) and railways (CMA Rail), as well as port handling facilities and logistics on land.
