OOCL receives the 2015 Singapore Environmental Achievement Award
OOCL received the 2015 Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (Regional) (SEAA) at a ceremony held by the Singapore Environment Council’s (SEC) 20th Anniversary Gala on August 26, 2015, where Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources of Singapore, was the Guest of Honor, the company said in its press release.
Recognized by the community as one of the most prestigious and reputable environmental award schemes in Singapore, it was launched by the then Minister for the Environment, Mr. Yeo Cheow Tong in November 1997 to honor outstanding organizations and companies for their overall environmental stewardship, environmental management and performance as well as leadership and innovation in sustainability.
OOCL has exceeded many international requirements and industry standards in the countries where it operates by pushing forward many important and successful initiatives , including:
• Investments in the latest state-of-the-art technologies for new containerships with advanced green features to meet current and future environmental requirements;
• Implementation of the Global Vessel Voyage Monitoring Centre (GVVMC) developed by sister company, CargoSmart, to monitor real-time vessel movements so as to enhance fleet performance and fuel efficiency;
• Adoption of international environmental reporting and disclosure assurance standards to certify data integrity on vessel emissions; and
• Proactive engagement with the community through various green projects, such as educating the younger generation about the importance of protecting our environment.
This year, the SEAA Technical Work Group (TWG) assigned both the SEC and KPMG, an international auditing firm, to undergo on-site assessments of our office and vessel to determine our environmental performance.
