Grigory Straty, Vice-governor of the Murmansk Region, took part in the meeting of “Industry and Technologies Development” group held on October 7, 2015 within the framework of the State Commission on Arctic Development. In his report he spoke about expediency of building a series of freight/passenger ships for FSUE Rosmorport branches, press center of Murmansk Region Government says.  According to Grigory Straty, such vessels linking sea and river ports of the Arctic region with the remote towns are needed to facilitate the development of Arctic coastal territory.

Freight/passenger ships are required for implementation of different projects in the Arctic, on the Frantz Josef Land and Novaya Zemlya archipelagoes, as well as for support of offshore drilling and production platforms.

The proposal will be considered from the financial point of view under the State Programme on Shipbuilding Development.

During the meeting, prospects of infrastructure development in terms of aircraft industry and shipbuilding were at the top of the agenda.

Next session of the working group is to be held on November 18 within the IV Murmansk International Business Week.
