Lena United River Shipping Company (LORP OJSC) expects allocations of RUB 550 mln in 2015 for construction of eight vessels. This amount has been allocated for the first time in the 20-year period due to the sale of ALROSA shares, says the press center of Yakutia’s Ministry of Transport and Road Facilities. Besides, RUB 300 mln will be allocated for equipment maintenance.
20% of the Company’s revenues is allocated annually for fleet repairs. This year it makes RUB 300 mln. According to Victor Shadrin, Chief Engineer, the fleet has already been placed at the base points in Zhatai and Peledui for repais.
“The stock of materials, equipment and instruments is 100% full, the stock spare parts required is 80% full but it is to be one hundred percent full by February 1”, Victor Shadrin said.
A work group headed by Gennady Alekseyev, Director General of JSC Sakha Republic Development Corporation, was established at the meeting dedicated to shipbuilding held in September 2015. The group has developed a mechanism for financing of the new ships construction.
“It is a significant issue. The more so as the fleet is obsolete. Construction of ships is a long process. We are going to meet this challenge. There will be no railway in the Arctic and other types of transport will not replace us as it is necessary to carry coal and oil,” said Gennady Alekseyev.
Lena United River Shipping Company is the only transport company operating in the Arctic area of the republic of Sakha (Yakutia). It transports freight and passengers along inland water ways and the sea routes. The Company’s fleet numbers over 350 ships with the total capacity of 450,000 t. The Republic of Sakha holds the control state of the shipping company.
