In January-December 2015 seaport of Nevelsk (Sakhalin) handled 1,031,500 t of cargo, which is almost 3-fold increase, year-on-year, the port’s Harbour Master Office told IAA PortNews.
Deputy Harbour Master of port Nevelsk Riyas Gimadiyev says the increase should be attributed to growing exports of coal and coastal traffic operations.
Coal exports via the port surged over 5-fold to 374,000 t, coastal cargo traffic doubled to 621,000 t, imports increased over 4 times to 24,000 t.
In 2015, the port saw 5,165 calls (+36 calls, year-on-year). In 2016, the port is going to accept 5,200 vessels.
Port Nevelsk is an ice-free port with round-the-year navigation in the south of Sakhalin’s western coast.
