In January-February 2016, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 6,148,000 t of cargo (-10%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, coal transshipment fell by 20.8% to 2,019,000 t, oil products – down 7.3% to 1,699,100 t, wood pellets – up 5.7 times to 85,400 t, ore – down 13.7% to 39,100 t.
The port’s container throughput fell by 3.1% to 61,206 TEUs.
Passenger turnover climbed by 14.6% to 70,287 persons including 1,485 cruise passengers.
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2015, the port’s throughput totaled 40,055,800 t of cargo.
