In January-March 2016, the port of Klaipeda (Lithuania) handled 9.96 mln t of cargo (+10.2%, year-on-year). In March transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 11.4% to 1.16 mln t, general cargo – up 13.9% to 1,015,900 t while transshipment of loose dry cargo climbed by 14.9% to 3.45 mln t.
Klaipeda State Seaport is the northernmost ice–free port on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. It is the most important and biggest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea, land and railway routes from East to West. The port’s throughput (including Butinge terminal) climbed by 9% to 38.44 mln t in 2015.
