Crew of LUKOIL-BUNKER’s tanker Batic Seagul saved a person in the Gulf of Finland
On June 18, 2016, the crew of LUKOIL-BUNKER’s tanker Batic Seagul held an excellent rescue operation in the water area of the Luga Bay (Gulf of Finland). The wind in the Gulf of Finland gusted to 16 m/s that day with the waves raising as high as 1.5 m. While staying at the anchorage of Ust-Luga seaport, the Baltic Seagul was informed about a fisherman in an inflatable boat floated away with the storm to the open sea. The crew enhanced the watchkeeping and soon could see a person in distress who was trying to draw attention with an oar fragment.
The captain reported on finding the person and was ordered by the Sea Rescue Coordination Center of Saint-Petersburg to perform the rescue operation. Amid unfavorable weather conditions the captain and the crew maneuvered the ship to protect the boat from waves and wind. The exhausted person was lifted aboard and provided medical care.
Then the ship sailed to the area of the Luga Bay with less wind and waves to transfer the rescued man to the pilot boat and take him ashore.
