The Coast Guard and local partner agencies are searching for a missing boater in the upper Potomac River near Mount Vernon, the USCG said in a press release.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Maryland-National Capital Region received a report from Fairfax Fire Department dispatch at approximately 5 p.m. stating an adult male jumped from his boat to retrieve a fishing pole and and was unable to swim back to the boat against the current.
Sector Maryland-NCR issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew from Coast Guard Station Washington, D.C. to search.
Also searching are Charles County Fire, Maryland; Alexandria Fire, Virginia; Prince Georges County Fire, Maryland; Maryland Natural Resources Police; Fairfax County, Virginia; and National Park Service.
