VSC tests circular shipments on Primorye 1 transport corridor
LLC Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company says it has tested a new circular route in Primorye 1, the international transport corridor serving cargo flow from Northern China to Asia Pacific.
Since the beginning of July, VSC has sent the first two test container trains to Grodetkovo Station (the Russian-Chinese border crossing Grodetkovo-Suifenhe). As part of the new circular route, a train carrying empty containers departs from VSC, then in Grodetkovo the empty containers are replaced with laden containers with Chinese cargo that return to VSC for handling and further shipment to ports in Southern China. The route takes about two days and offers much better logistics for Chinese consignors. As vessel batches are accumulated, VSC loads the containers onto vessels and ships them to China.
Primorye 1 transport corridor services the cargo flow from northern regions of China. The cargo is shipped in transit through the border crossing points in Russia’s Primorye Region and subsequently shipped by sea to southern China and Asia-Pacific countries. The corridor was organized as part of an international program to develop the Tumannaya River basin (by Russia, China, Mongolia, and South Korea). Primorye 1 runs from the border railway station Suifenhe to the container terminal of LLC Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company in the Vostochny Port. The length of the route is about 500 km from Chinese shipping centers, whereas an alternative route through the Chinese Dalian port is about 1,300 km. The corridor also includes the Ussuriysk-Pogranichny-State Border motorway.
Both test shipments were supported by two independent forwarding companies – LLC Swift Multimodal Rus and LLC PORTMAY – that are VSC’s partners for Primorye 1 ITC.
