Russian Navy's Caspian Flotilla has commissioned into service the second serial salvage tugboat "SB-738" with SAR operations division of the fleet, the Ministry of Defense press office said.
The tug was built at Astrakhan subsidiary yard of Ship Repair Center "Zvezdochka".
The SB-45, lead ship of the tug series entered service with the Caspian Flotilla fleet in 2014. The SB-45 as her sister ship is designed to perform towing / refloating tasks, fire-fighting, assists in the medevac of crews.
Gensets on board the tug can be utilized for energy supply to stricken vessel, and if necessary special pontoons can be deployed to support the vessel afloat.
The multi-task tug is equipped to support diving operations at depths of 60 m. Besides, the ship can participate in oil spill response and oil recovery on the sea surface.
The crew of SB-738 are now conducting search and rescue drills at sea.
