Russian Gov't elaborates on cabotage definition in Merchant Shipping Code
The Russian Federation Government at its meeting, August 18, 2016 approved the draft federal law On Amendments to Article 4 of the Merchant Shipping Code of the Russian Federation relating to short sea shipping term and decided to submit it for passage through the State Duma, the government's press office said.
The bill proposes to consider short sea shipping (cabotage) as transportation / towing not only between the Russian seaports, but also between seaports and other destination points in Russian and (or) artificial islands, offshore installations and facilities on the continental shelf of Russia.
This will ensure that the priority right to transport and towing vessels flying the Russian flag.
The bill was considered and approved July 25, 2016 at a meeting of the Government commission on legislation.
