Vostochny Port’s shipments of coal bound for Japan up 28.8% to 4.46 mln t in 9M’16

In the January-September 2016, Vostochny Port’s shipments of coal bound for Japan totaled 4.46 mln t (+28.8%, year-on-year), says press center of the stevedoring companies.

At the international conference Coaltrans Japan 2016 held Tokyo in late September, representatives of the coal companies, experts of the industry, traders and clients were told about implementation of Vostochny Port’s project on construction of it Coal Terminal’s Phase 3.

According to the players of the APR market, the seaports are to become the final point in the chain promoting Russia’s energy resource to the premium markets through improvement of its competitiveness. This was discussed at the round-table meeting “What does Russia's Far East coal port expansion mean for exports?”.

“Apart from transshipment we offer the services on sorting and blending of coal, making its fraction comply with export contract requirements, multi-level magnetic cleaning”, Anatoly Lazarev, Managing Director of Vostochny Port JSC, said when presenting the company at Coaltrans Japan 2016. 

Fast growth and development of Russia’s coal port drew attention of several delegations, those of KOBELCO Kobe Steel group, SUMITOMO Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation RtM Japan, MITSUI etc.

Vostochny Port JSC (Primorsky Territory) is Russia’s largest publicly available terminal equipped with wagon dumpers, conveyor systems, ship loading equipment and a unique multilevel system of magnetic separation. The terminal exports coal produced by different coal companies of Russia.

In 2015 the port handled 22.8 mln t of coal, one fifth of all coal exports via Russian seaports and about 32% of coal transshipment via the ports of Russia’s Far East Basin.

Vostochny Port JSC LLC is implementing an ambitious investment project on construction of the coal terminal’s Phase 3 including the construction of the federal railway infrastructure. New terminal facilities will be put into operation in 2017 allowing for port capacity to reach 39 mln t in 2019. The coal will be delivered from Kuzbass and other coal fields of Russia.

A sole executive body of Vostochny Port JSC is Managing Port Company LLC.
