Throughput of Klaipeda port rises 3.4% to 29.9 mln t in 9M’16

Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania between January and September 2016 increased by 3.4% on the same period's figures and totaled 29.9 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics said. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo climbed by 12.6% to 8.68 mln t, general cargo – up 9.4% to 9.2 mln t, dry bulk cargo – down 6.1% to 786,500 t.

In the 9-month period the port welcomed 5,090 vessels (+1.5%, or 77 vessels, year-on-year) and 300,237 passengers (+3.1%).

State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2015 (including Butinge Terminal) rose 9% (y-o-y) to 38.44 million tonnes.
