Investments of Murmansk Commercial seaport in environmental programmes have surged 9 times from 2012 to RUB 340 mln in 2016, tax payments into the regional budget grew 2.2 times to RUB 990 mln, the port’s press center cites Denis Ilatovsky, Chairman of Murmansk Commercial seaport BoD, as saying at the IV International Arctic Forum ‘Arctic – Territory of Dialogue’ (Arkhangelsk, 29-30 March).
According to the statement, introduction of the comprehensive eco-management programme, reduction of fuel consumption and improvement of cargo transshipment technologies resulted in 40-pct decrease of emissions caused by the largest stevedoring company in the Arctic Basin. As of today, they make only 0.75% of all hazardous emissions in Murmansk.
Denis Ilatovsky told about the company’s dust suppression system consisting of six mist making units fitted with “winter package” allowing for dust suppression at low temperatures.
“Murmansk Commercial seaport has done a lot to decrease emissions several times over the recent years. The port’s comprehensive environmental programme covering the period of 3 years will let additionally reduce the environmental footprint by a half. This year is going to see the introduction of water treatment system, the completion of designing the 20-meter high wind protection screens surrounding the port’s production area and partial conversion of road transport to natural gas”, explained Denis Ilatovsky.
Murmansk Commercial Seaport (MMTP JSC) was founded in 1994. MMTP operates 17 berths with total length of about 3 km. The waters depths allow the port accommodate vessels with draft of up to 15.5 m and length of over 265 m.
The bulk of the company’s throughput is coal - 93.3% of total throughput.
