In January-March 2017, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 9,306,700 t of cargo (+2.1%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, coal transshipment climbed by 18.4% to 3,497,200 t, oil products – down 25.3% to 1,856,200 t, wood pellets – up 1.5 times to 221,900 t, ore – down 18.2% to 52,500 t.
The Port’s container throughput grew by 16.9% to 110,399 TEUs.
Passenger turnover increased by 22.6% to 134,506 people including 1,795 cruise passengers (+20.9%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2016, the port’s throughput totaled 37,070,300 t of cargo.
