Throughput of Klaipeda port (Lithuania) climbs by 2% to 10.3 mln t in QI’2017

Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania in January-March 2017 grew by 2%, year-on-year, to 10.3 mln t, the Port Authority statistics said. In March, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 27.3% to 842,870 t, general cargo – down 7.8% to 1.07 mln t, dry bulk cargo – up 29.6% to 1.55 mln t.

In QI’2017, passenger turnover at the port fell by 3.6% to 31,430 passengers, the number of calls declined by 0.2% to 1,622.

State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2016 increased by almost 4% (y-o-y) to over 40 million tonnes.
