Superficial structure of the Ice-Resistant Platform-2 escorted along the Volga-Caspian Marine Shipping Canal

On April 16, 2017 FSUE “Rosmorport” pilots finished piloting of the superficial structure of the Ice-Resistant Platform-2 (IRP-2) located on the transport and installation barge “Yuri Kuvykin” in the area of 170 km of the Volga-Caspian Marine Shipping Canal (VCMSC).

In order to ensure safe passage through the canal the barge was escorted by the towing train consisting of four vessels. The fleet of the Astrakhan Branch of the FSUE “Rosmorport” represented by surveying vessel “Petr Bakanev” and buoy tender “MZ-102” also took part in the successful towing operation.

During the escort additional aids to navigation were installed as well as seaway canal depth was monitored in the VCMSC limiting areas.
